It wasn’t that long ago that if you wanted to put a raised bed in your yard you had to build it from scratch. Most of us old timers used the treated wood timbers that we now know has arsenic and other dangerous chemicals embedded in it and would choose not to do that today. Of course, you can get some quality redwood or cedar or just buy a recycled raised bed that is made out of old plastic milk containers. If you do, make sure the plastic is coming from the US as some companies import it from China, which defeats the purpose of recycling.
Another clean choice is to choose a wooden raised bed that comes in the form of a kit. The pieces are pre-drilled or pre-made to snap together and come in either a Natural Red Cedar or Natural White Cedar. Both of these are great for organic or near organic gardens because they last longer than most natural woods having natural properties that fend off pests and resist water damage. Whatever you do make a good decision and find out what you are getting before you buy.
